Mt. Ruapehu

 
Mt. Ruapehu is 10,000 ft tall and a volcano (it last erupted in 1995). I took this photo from 8,500 ft which is about as high as you want to go in an unpressurised Katana. The aircraft could go up to 13,000 ft if it wanted to but my frail human body can only manage 10,000 ft at most. I managed to snap a few photographs and take a couple of short videos before I had to turn back... 

Mt. Ngaurhoe

 
Well, I finally managed to find a day with decent weather so I jumped in a Katana and headed on down to Mt. Ruapehu. This picture is of the slightly smaller mountain right next to it called Mt. Ngaurhoe. Some of you might also recognise it as Mt. Doom (of Lord of the Rings fame)...
